PATRICK MIKHAIL à Montréal est heureux de présenter HOTSPOTS, une exposition de nouvelles œuvres par ANTONIETTA GRASSI, JANET JONES, et AMY SCHISSEL.   L'exposition est une présentation de PICTURA, un événement consacre à la promotion et à la diffusion de la peinture contemporaine au sens large, en présentant des œuvres dans plusieurs lieux culturels à Montréal, et ce, tout au long des mois de novembre et décembre 2020. 

Antonietta Grassi, Janet Jones et Amy Schissel sont trois peintres abstraites qui intègrent dans leurs œuvres leurs perceptions de la technologie numérique, d’un avenir spéculatif et du féminisme.  Leurs peintures brisent les frontières rigides entre l'image et l'abstraction en empruntant l'une à l'autre et en s'entremêlant chacune inconsciemment.  Bien que leurs œuvres évoquent la forte tradition de l’abstraction montréalaise, principalement des peintres masculins, elles honorent et critiquent ce passé en le « dérangeant » à la fois dans la forme, la couleur et le concept. Contrairement à de nombreux artistes qui font référence aux technologies actuelles en utilisant les médias numériques, elles les remettent implicitement en question à travers le médium de la peinture. La nature même de la peinture la rend lente, directe, méditative et intimement liée au corps humain, en l'occurrence le corps féminin. Les traces du toucher humain, de la main, sont toujours visibles.

Dans  ces œuvres, Antonietta Grassi, Janet Jones et Amy Schissel ont toutes choisi d'aller à contre-courant ; pour créer des Hotspots! — des points de tension, de collision et d'intensité qui reflètent notre situation mondiale actuelle.

PATRICK MIKHAIL in Montréal is pleased to present HOTSPOTS, an exhibition of new work by ANTONIETTA GRASSI, JANET JONES, and AMY SCHISSEL.  The exhibition is a presentation of PICTURA, an event dedicated to the presentation and exhibition of contemporary painting in the expanded field, across the city of Montreal during the months of November and December 2020.

Antonietta Grassi, Janet Jones and Amy Schissel are three abstract painters who weave their perceptions of digital technology, speculative futurity, and feminism into their works. Their paintings break down the rigid boundaries between image and abstraction, borrowing and intermingling each unselfconsciously.  Although their works allude to the strong tradition of Montréal Abstraction, primarily by male painters, they both honour and critique that past by "messing" with it in both form, colour, and concept. Unlike many artists who reference current technologies by employing digital media, these artists implicitly question it through the medium of painting itself.  The very nature of painting makes it slow, direct, meditative, and intimately tied to the human body, in this case the female body.  The traces of human touch, of the hand, are always visible.

In their work Grassi, Jones, and Schissel have all chosen to go against the grain; to create Hotspots!—points of tension, collision, and intensity that reflect upon our current world situation.
