Abysses conjugue ma pratique en peinture et en dessin avec mon intérêt pour des dispositifs d’installation picturale évoquant un espace-paysage. Le point de départ de cette nouvelle série est l’expérience immersive effectuée lors de voyages de plongée en apnée. Comment recréer cette expérience d’immersion sous-marine dans une installation picturale abstraite ? Dans cette expérience, le corps est en apesanteur, il observe le paysage sous lui, autour de lui et devant lui. La profondeur de champ est atmosphérique plutôt que géométrique, les éléments flottent et paraissent plus proches que sur la terre ferme, le son de notre respiration se mêle au silence comme unique paysage sonore. Cette expérience place le corps-observateur tout au dedans et tout au dehors au même instant. Ce que je demande à une peinture et à l’espace installatif, c’est la possibilité de me retrouver sans savoir ce que contient ce retour sur soi-même à l’occasion de cette rencontre avec la peinture ou le paysage qu’elle évoque.
Abysses combines my practice in painting and drawing with my interest in pictorial installation devices evoking a landscape space. The starting point for this new series is the immersive experience of freediving trips. How to recreate this underwater immersion experience in an abstract pictorial installation? In this experience, the body is in weightlessness, it observes the landscape below, around and in front of it. The depth of field is atmospheric rather than geometric, the elements float and appear closer than on land, the sound of our breathing mixes with silence as the only sound landscape. This experience places the observer-body all inside and all outside at the same time. What I ask of a painting and the installation space is the possibility of finding myself without knowing what is contained in this return on oneself on the occasion of this encounter with the painting or the landscape it evokes.
